The course is made up of 7 separate sessions with 3 different parts per session. The first part of each class is devoted to the critiquing of shots taken for homework the previous week. The second part is aimed at the photography side of things, such as what are the best buttons to get or correct a specific effect while also teaching you the fundamental techniques of photography. The third part focuses on the computer side. We provide you with fantastic free software (Windows only) which allows you to create panoramas, remove people from photographs and restore old photos. The notes for the computer tutorials also show clearly how to use these techniques in Adobe Photoshop and Elements.
NIGHT/DAY COURSE
The night/day course takes place over 8 weeks (dates etc here), 1 session per week for 1 and a half hours each session. At the end of the course you will be able to understand and use all the the extra buttons on your camera while also being able to take better shots, even in dark, tricky situations like night time and low light.
WEEKEND COURSE
The course takes place over 2 consectuive days (dates etc here) for 8 hours each day. At the end of the course you will be able to understand and use all the the extra buttons on your camera while also being able to take better shots, even in dark, tricky situations like night time and low light.
3 HALF DAY COURSE
When offered, the 3 Half Day Course takes place over 3 consecutive mid week afternoons and includes a field trip on the second day.
Homework
Night and morning students are set optional homework which is gently critiqued each week. Weekend students have the shots taken on their field trips critiqued on their return to the Institute after each field trip. 3 Half Day Course students email their best shots from their field trip for critiquing on the last day of their course.
Field Trip
For the night/day students week 6 is devoted to a photography night shoot into Dublin City Centre. Weekend Students have a field trip after lunch on each to the days of their course and 3 Half Day Course students have a field trip on the afternoon of the second day of their course. Each student will be advised on how to use their own camera properly and how to take better shots on these field trips.
Full Colour, Illustrated Handouts
Carefully worded and appropriately illustrated handouts are an integral part of our courses. Because lectures tend to have an effect which lasts only a short while, particularly if no notes are taken, we believe our handouts are the key to making your newly gained knowledge much more long-lasting. Between photography and computer notes you will receive over 110 pages of full colour, detailed notes for the course.
